[Question #13859] Hiv risk

Hello, 45 days ago I had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a sex worker. Afterwards, I became scared and started getting tested. I took 4th generation tests on days 12-14-16-18-20-25-26-32-35-39-41-43, and also an HIV RNA PCR test on day 21. However, I still have burning and stinging in my feet and groin, as well as pain in my right jaw, cheek, neck, and ear. Some sources say 6 weeks, others 45 days. Should I get tested again? Can I have intercourse with my wife?

Üç farklı merkezde yapılan testler, 28 gün sonra sonuçların kesin olduğunu ve testi tekrarlamama gerek olmadığını gösterdi, ancak bu durum beni tam olarak rahatlatmadı.

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. If your partner was infected, which is unlikely (most commercial sex workers do not have HIV), the risk for acquistion of HIV from a single episode of unprotected vaginal sex is low, less that 1 infection in over 2000 encounters on average, irrespective of the duration of exposure and there are no proven cases of HIV acquired from receipt of oral sex. Your subsequent testing proves, without doubt, that you were not infected. both your most recent 4th generation test results, as well as your HIV RNA PCR results prove that you do not have HIV. There is no reason for continuing concern regarding HIV and no reason for further testing. The symptoms you describe are due to something other than HIV or any other STI you might have acquired from the encounter you describe.
There is no reason related to the encounter you have described to abstain from unprotected intercourse with your wife. Please don't worry. EWH

Thank you for your answer, doctor. But the symptoms appeared 20 days after intercourse. Is the test accurate after 45 days or 6 weeks?

Yes, your test results are entirely accurate. You can be confident that your symptoms were not caused by HIV. EWH---

Should I take a test on day 46? I hadn't exceeded the 45 days recommended by the CDC in my last test.

Your results at 41 and 43 days are conclusive and will not change. There is no need for further testing. EWH---

I took the test on day 46, I didn't listen to you then, but I will now. Is it necessary to wait until day 90, doctor?
