[Question #13911] Have I ruled out the risk of HIV-2?

Hello doctor, I was here before, unfortunately I'm back again. 62 days ago I had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a sex worker. Afterwards, I had 4th generation tests on days 12-14-16-18-20-25-26-32-35-39-41-43-46-50 and 60, and also HIV 1 PCR tests on days 21 and 47. I know I ruled out HIV 1. For HIV 2, the tests work like antibodies. In your answers, you say 8 weeks is the definitive result. I would like to ask if the CDC is referring to 90 days for 3rd generation rapid tests, or is 60 days (8.5 weeks) definitive for ruling out HIV 2 in a laboratory setting?

This is a repetitive question. Do you think the answer will change- IT WILL NOT!!!!
The CDC is overly conservative. 90 day recommendations are out of date. You need to move forward. If you feel you must continue to pursue this issue there are HIV-2 RNA PCR tests which would ALSO be conclusive, a result which would only verify the conclusive results you already have. EWH

Thank you for your answers. I'm sorry you got angry with me, doctor. I'm just very worried... Unfortunately, there are no HIV-2 PCR tests in my city, and only one laboratory in the country performs them, so I can't get one done. I know I'm thinking too much, but I'm scared because there isn't enough research on HIV-2.

On the 70th day, I took a 4th generation test again and it was negative. Is this definitely clear now that I'm free of HIV-2, doctor? I've started seeing a psychiatrist and they've started medication.

Final answer. You have proven you don’t have HIV-1 or HIV-2. You do not need more testing. I encourage you to work with your doctor to address your unwarranted concerns.
The thread will now be closed. There should be no need to return. EWH
