[Question #13955] STD Risk

Hi doc,

I made a mistake again in a spa I visited. I had condom on a she is performing oral. After that I removed the condom as I do not want sex. After some chatting I tried and she tried to put it back on. However, we flipped it multiple times as we do not know the correct side. I am afraid that her saliva during the oral might be the side of the condom that I wore the second time and be at risk of any STD (hiv, herpes, chlam, gono, etc). Please advise.

Welcome back to the Forum.  Congratulations on your efforts to use condoms for your encounter however in the future, a new condom should be used rather than re-using one that was used earlier.  This is primarily because the risk of breakage goes up with re-use.  Nonetheless, this was a low risk encounter.  It is unlikely that your partner has and STI, including HIV and similar to your questions of Dr. Handsfield in the past regarding contact with vaginal secretions (he said " simple contact with vaginal fluids has little or no risk "), even if the condom was put on inside out and there was contact with her oral secretions, there is virtually no risk of infection of any sort.

While testing is always a personal decision, I see nothing to worry about here and no medical reason for testing.  EWH

Hi Dr. Hook,
Thank you for your reply. I agree that’s why even after successfully putting the condom back in, I decided not to proceed. Regarding the risk, is it safe to say that I can move on from this and won’t put others at risk?

The condom was put back in and stayed 5-10 seconds only. Not sure if that matters.

My advice is to not worry and move forward without concern.  EWH---
