Hello doctors, I am 65 yo male and made a terrible decision and had brief unprotected sex with a 60 yo lady that I know . She lives in my community and seems very clean . I’m 12 weeks out and have pens and needles affect on skin , some fatigue and what I feel like is swollen lymph nodes in groin and under arm , this has been going on for about 5-6 weeks. I tested negative at 46,53,62, 81 days with the gen 4 duo test . 3 rests from quest and 1 from my primary care doctor. I didn’t have these symptoms before the one time encounter, that’s what has me worried. I exercise daily and the last few weeks have been tough because of low energy . High anxiety plus sleeping has been hard. I just feel different almost like skin is burning at times. I guess my question is would the gen4 duo lab tests be enough to rule out hiv even with symptoms, all the tests were vein drawn . I also took Ora quick tests at 7,8,9,10,11 weeks all negative . I could move onif it weren’t for the symptoms and feeling bad. Thanks for your time .

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. I'll be glad to comment. This was a low risk encounter. Most persons do not have STIs, including HIV and most single encounters with infected persons do not result in infection. Your partner is a low risk category age group and I suspect your assessment that she is unlikely to be infected is entirely reasonable. Your HIV test results are entirely conclusive and prove that you did not acquired HIV from the encounter you describe. To be able to feel lymph nodes in the arm pits and groin is entirely normal and non-specific. The tingling sensations you're experiencing do not suggest any STI including HIV.
I see no need for further testing of any sort and would suggest you do best to do so. Sometimes when a person is anxious and looking for symptoms they will notice otherwise normal sensations that typically go unnoticed. EWH

Thanks for the quick reply Doctor Hook . My concern is the possible neuropathy which wasn’t there before the one time exposure. And also , my general feeling bad . So my test results overrule the symptoms? I also took a oraquick test to the lady involved at 8!weeks and it was negative. The symptoms have me puzzled .

You test results completely rule out the possibility that the tingling you are experiencing is due to HIV and they are not consistent with any other STI. No change in my assessment. If they continue to trouble you, I suggest talking with your doctor about them. They are not due for HIV or any STI. EWH---

Thanks again , couple last questions. Besides my pens and needles lymph nodes feel at times like they have a burning sensation around them . All other STDs have been tested negative. After the one time exposure I had a small white patch appear on penis not painful . The hiv tests rule out infection with my 4 negative tests … are these conclusive at 45 days no way an I could be missed ? Could I resume relations with my regular partner. Thanks

A white patch on yypenis is not suggestive of an STI bit it does suggest you are being hyper alert in your search for symptoms. Again, as I have said before. Your test results are entirely conclusive and will not change. In closing this thread I once more encourage you to move forward without concern. There is certainly no reason related to the encounter you describe to hesitate in resuming unprotected sexual activity with your regular partner.
This thread is now complete. EWH

Final answer, which is the same as you have already received. Your test results prove that you have not acquired HIV from the encounter you described. Unequivocally! Further testing is a waste of time and resources. As I've already said, your swollen lymph nodes are non-specific and may not even be abnormal. Your other symptoms are clearly not due to HIV and could be a manifestation of your anxiety. If the symptoms are continuing to trouble you, forget about HIV and discuss them with your regular doctor.
End of thread. Closing it now. EWH
