[Question #14025] is testing necessary?

Hello, I was curious if you would suggest testing for HIV/Hep C in this situation.

I had a rather small cut on the palm of my hand. Turns a splinter was stuck in there,, so it wouldn't fully close. I ended up going to the doctor and he was able to push/tweeze it out. I noticed that the cut began to close after that. Roughly 4 days later I was out with some friends at a restaurant and there was a line for the bathroom. When it was my turn, I usually always wash my hands before I use the bathroom so I hit the soap dispenser button with the same palm that I have that cut (dumb I know). And I noticed something kind of sticky on the button... I have no idea what it is, but worst case scenario let's say it is blood. Is this something I should get tested for? Especially since it was literally seconds from when the last person touched it (once again assuming it was blood)

Side note- since I was pushing the button, I ended up washing my hands with soap almost immediately after feeling the sticky substance, not sure if this helps/changes the situation.

My cut wasn't actively bleeding at the time and it was in the healing process. I would say the cut itself looked to be a bit bigger than a tip of a pencil.

Thanks for your time

Welcome back to the forum. Thank you for your confidence in our services. You've previously been advised (a few times) about repeated questions about obviously risk free exposures to HIV or other STIs. But it's been almost 3 years, so this question is no problem.

Our experience and expertise are in STIs and sexual transmission -- we certainly are not experts in nonsexual transmission. However, I see nothing in this description that suggests any risk for HIV, the hepatitis C virus (HCV), or anything else. I would not advise testing; you really shouldn't be at all worried.

I hope these comments are helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
