[Question #14037] Oral sex reaction symptom's concerning

Hello Doctor. I really do apologize for being back here again in only a few days. But shortly after you had closed my last question about my oral sex exposure, I developed some very random, concerning symptoms which started 3 days ago on Thursday. One of them being that I developed Conjunctivitis in my right eye and right now it’s almost severe. I’m having a hard time right now because I’m worried on how long it will take to heal
Back to normal. How long on average will it take for my eye to get back to normal?
Second thing that happened was that I was having moderate to borderline severe burning sensation in my joints and I could literally feel my joints being inflamed. That happened on Thursday night. I felt it in my feet, legs, hips, knees, mainly. The inflammation seemed to have gone down now but I can still feel it a little bit. I was doing some serious research and wanted to clarify if this could be a bad strand of Adenovirus causing all of this? I also read that Adenovirus is one form of NGU that’s mainly passed through oral. Could receiving oral sex 3-4 sessions in one night cause my urethritis to develop in Reactive Arthritis? I’m just a little confused right now and really need some input since this randomly happened in the past 3 days. My urethritis has gotten better with less discharge and pain and redness/inflammation. I’d say about 75%

No need to apologize.  Sorry to hear of your new symptoms although they do provide some insight into the possible source of your problems.  The combination of conjunctivitis, NGU symptoms, and a flu-like illness ( joint pains) fits with an Adenovirus infection.  The fact that the urethritis and joint discomfort are likewise consistent with the self limited nature of an adenovirus infection.  Hopefully your conjunctivitis is improving as well.  Symptomatic treatment including eye drops may help.  If the conjunctivitis is severe seeing a doctor for steroid eye drops may help the inflammation as well.

Unfortunately the conjunctivitis may take as long as 2 or more weeks to resolve.  EWH

Unfortunately my conjunctivitis was severe. I also have a corneal abrasion that is large in my right affected eye which I’m not sure how it got there. Now I can hardly see out of that eye. I went to the eye doctor and she is trying her best to help it heal. The conjunctivitis also recently spread to my left eye but it’s not super bad. Does the adenovirus or conjunctivitis cause raw/mild throat pain and irritation. I currently have that right now. I also had asked her if she is clean of any STD’s and she said yes. Is there any other symptoms I should look out for with this Adneovirus? I feel like my body has cleared a lot of it out of my system but not 100% yet.

Sore throat can certainly be part of adenovirus, as is spread to your other eye.  The entire illness is consistent with a community acquired viral illness which, unfortunately, needs to run its course.  Seeing an eye doctor is wise, particularly with a corneal abrasion.  EWH---

Okay that makes sense, thanks. One last thing I meant to ask. With this woman, I had sucked her breast and realized I tasted some breast milk. I immediately stopped and asked her if she lactate and she said yes. She isn’t pregnant by the way. By me ingesting some of her milk, would that increase the odds of me acquiring this Adenovirus? And would that have been an HIV risk as well from the milk or if there were some blood on her nipples or in the milk? I’m just genuinely curious.

Final responses.  Adenovirus can cause a systemic flu-like illness similar to the symptoms you’ve experienced.  Transmission is primarily through droplets and exposure to oral secretions however there is evidence that the infection is occasionally transmitted through breast milk as well.

There is no evidence that HIV is transmitted among adults through ingesting breast milk from an untreated infected person.

As you know, this completes this thread.  I hope your symptoms improve soon.  Stay hydrated and take care of your eyes.  The thread will be closed shortly.  EWH
