[Question #14049] Hiv/std risk/cunnilingus....

Hi,
I recently visited a massage parlour 3 weeks ago.
I received protected oral and performed unprotected cunnilingus for perhaps 30 secs or so.
I have become very worried since as I've developed a sore throat and some night sweats. I am an anxious person.
I am concerned about hiv In particular. My understanding is giving cunnilingus is very low risk.
I also visited another massage parlour on may 18 for a four hand massage, where some french kissing took place, but no penetrative sex or oral.
What are my risks here for hiv and other stds?
I feel very upset and angry at myself for putting myself at risk.

Welcome to our Forum. Thanks for your questions. Statistically, your risk from the encounter you describe is lower than your risk of being struck by lightening. It is unlikely that your massuese had HIV (or any other STI), your penile exposure was condom protected, and biologically cunnilingus, particularly such a brief exposure is among the least efficient mechanisms of HIV transmission. I suspect your sore throat is coincidental rather than related to the encounter you describe. I am confident your sore throat is not due to the HIV ARS however, if you wish to have the added assurance that a negative test provides, a negative 4th generation test for HIV at this will prove that your sore throat is not due to HIV. Personally, I would not bother to test but of course, that is a personal decision.
The encounter on May 18 you describe was a no risk event. Please don't worry. EWH

Hi Dr Hook, I really appreciate your response. I would like to tell you that you and Dr Handsfield helped me thru another period of hiv anxiety way back around 2010 when you both were answering questions on medhelp I think it was, so thank you for that.
The night sweats concern me, I have been having mild ones for a while now but this morning was more severe, I woke at 6am or so having a very bad dream which I vividly remember. I've had them in the past too.
Dr Handsfield says giving oral to a woman is basically no risk, so I can take comfort in that and put this incident out of my mind?
I feel such a fool for doing this.

Thank you once more Dr Hook, I will try to do that, and if I ever slip up and visit these places again, I will refrain from even giving and receiving oral. It is not worth the stress and anxiety it causes me.
