Hello, I am stright woman. On June 12, I had vaginal sex with a male using a condom throughout the entire penetration. it  did not break, slip, or leak. At the end, he completely withdrew his penis from my vagina before ejaculation. After he was fully outside my body, he removed the condom & ejaculated outside. Some semen got onto my abdomen & a small amount came into contact with the external genital area (vulva/labia), possibly reaching the vulvar cleft. I did not see /feel any semen enter the vagina. There was no visible leakage into the vagina & ejaculation definitely occurred only after he had withdrawn completely. he briefly performed oral sex (cunnilingus) on me. Later that day, after brushing his teeth, he had a small amount of blood from his gums due to gingivitis. I did not notice any active bleeding from his mouth during oral. I had a negative HIV test  1 month before this encounter. Since then, I have only this 1contact with this same partner. He is straight, 27 y.o., greek like me & he may have had 2 other female partners, but according to him, he used condoms with them as well. Would this be considered an HIV exposure? Would you recommend HIV testing ?

Thank you very much

Welcome back to the Forum and thanks for both your continuing confidence in our service and your regular practice of safe sex.  The exposure you describe was virtually no risk- a condom was used, your partner is unlikely to have HIV, he ejaculated outside of your vagina and oral sex rarely leads to infection even in the unlikely circumstance that he had an infection of some sort.

I am also aware of your OCD and that testing makes you anxious.  Testing is always a personal choice. I have no particular concern about the encounter that you describe and would not worry. If you choose to test, I am confident the test will show that you were not infected. On the other hand for persons who have more than one partner or whose partners have other partners it is advisable to periodically get tested. Periodic testing can be carried out every 6 to 12 months depending on just how many partners might be involved. If you choose to test, please commit before you do, do commit to testing once.
