Hi doctors
I want to thank you again for this wonderful forum.
I got a haircut yesterday and came home and noticed a small nick on my neck. The Barber used trimmers. I don't think he used any razor. I know it was a cut because I applied rubbing alcohol to make sure no infection and it stung. Could I have gottten Any disease or HIV from this ? I recently was tested earlier this week and negative 4th generation hiv test and also negative HIV RNA Aptima test as I wanted to ease my mind. Am I at any risk for anything ?? Lately it's been that my life is consumed with anxiety/ fear and obsessing over anything that happens to me or I encounter daily as a risk for hiv / disease. Everything is heightened or worrisome.
Thank you and happy new year.

Welcome back. I reviewed your two other recent threads. I'm sorry to hear your HIV fears are continuing.
---
Nicks and cuts by barbers or beauty shop workers are common fears in some people because of the theoretical risk of transmitting HIV or other blood borne viruses by contaminated razors or other sharp implements. However, I stress it's only theoretical: probably nobody in the world has ever acquired HIV in this manner. In this case, it is statistically unlikely the customer before you was infected; and if so, not enough wet blood could persist on the trimmer to transmit an infection. For sure you do not need testing.
The second part of your question describes the only health problem you have: your abnormal fear and obsession with HIV and perhaps with contamination in general. This can be an early sign of very serious mental health disability. (Rent "The Aviator", the cinema biography of the billionaire Howard Hughes, for an excellent example of where this can lead. It's a terrific movie, by the way.) It's obviously fairly advance in your case, and affecting your daily life, and you should seek professional counseling about this. I recommend it out of compassion, not criticism.
Finally, please note that the forum does not accept repeated questions that stem from anxieties like yours. Anxious persons typically are not helped by rational analysis (your worries undoubtedly will continue despite my reasoned reply above), and such questions have little educational value for other users, one of the main purposes of the forum. So I need to ask that this be your last question on the forum about your fears of HIV and similar infections. Any further ones will be deleted without reply and without refund of the posting fee. Thanks for your understanding on this.
However, this thread remains open for two more follow-up comments or questions if anything isn't clear. I would love it if you start seeing a mental health professional and care to report back after your first appointment.
Best wishes-- HHH, MD

The answer to this is obvioius. Did you even read my reply??? Of course you should not take PEP and no ethical doctor or clinic would agree to prescribe it.
This comment underscores my recommendation about professional counseling. Do it.

Hi doctor thank you. What are the chances let's say if there is to catch hiv from this event ? What conditions have to exist to transmit ? I have been having bad panick attacks since this event as this is my worst fear . Thank you for your knowledge and suppport.

Read my replies above. Still no risk. Get counseling.

That concludes this thread. To repeat my comment above: "[This is] your last question on the forum about your fears of HIV and similar infections. Any further ones will be deleted without reply and without refund of the posting fee."
