I am freaking out because my six year old touched an abreva tube without a cap that had a globule of medicine with a hint a lipstick and then touched her genitals around five minutes later when I let her pull back her genitals to check for a rash. Please help me. I am so worried and I cannot sleep. I haven't had an active lesion in over a month or maybe two. However, I use the abreva to help prevent when I go workout sometimes and I honestly cannot remember the last time I used it. Please help me. I have posted but somehow I feel my question is not being seen u set the other title because I posted twice because I thought I broke the rules. I am sorry. I know it had not been used for prevention in over 24 hours and not on a lesion. I am not sure if I touched my lip and then the pump applicator more than once for more than one application. Please help me. I love my daughter so much. I am so scared. Someone please answer me if you can if virus could have been transferred from the abreva pump to her genitals? I feel so sick. How long could it live on a pump like that. I read that the active ingredient doesn't kill virus. Please help me.

Hi,
There is absolutely no risk to your child from touching the Abreva container. Zero. None. I'm so sorry you are worried and that I was away from the computer on New Years. It takes vastly more virus than would be present on that container to infect someone plus the fact that it had been a long time since anyone touched the container. This is just not the way people get herpes. Moms do worry, I get that, I'm a mom, but this one is something you can put aside completely.

Mrs. Warren,
I have to apologize when you see that I have posted multiple times because I didn't read the rules on this site all the way and I thought that if I added info that it would be deleted. You don't know the comfort that you have brought me tonite. This is definitely a great New Years gift. I also want to apologize for the same ordeal on your Westover site. I accidentally typed HIV instead of HSV. I am an educator but I seem to have fat fingers on a phone. My OCD with possibly giving my child anything genitally that may affect the quality of her life haunts me every day. People are so blessed to have such compassionate people like you that research these diseases and can help keep us somewhat sane. I can't change the past and what happened to me, but I can keep my kids informed through guidance such as yours on your forums. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you. Happy New Year!

So even if I had used it on my lips just to put it on there to workout over 24 hours earlier (which I can't remember if I did) that would be too long of a timeframe if I was shedding asymptomatically? That is my last question Mrs. Warren.

Yes, 24 hours would be WAAAAAAY too long ago for their to be any viable virus left.
