[Question #1679] Transmission from HSV-1 to genital area

I am a female who had receptive oral sex with a man who is HSV-1 positive.  Two weeks previously, he had cold sores, but the sores had healed and were gone during our encounter.  I know the virus is still contagious when there are no symptoms, but was curious how worried I should be.  I am HSV-1 negative.

How long ago was the contact? Yes, people with oral HSV 1 shed on about 25% of days so there is some risk.  And the IgG test misses 30% of infections with HSV 1, compared to western blot, so you may actually be negative or the test missed your infection.

Yesterday, so I'm not able to test yet.  But I'm freaking out now; I thought it was only contagious during an outbreak.

You are able to test now if you want to get a baseline test - it will tell you if you might already be infected and didn't know it
