[Question #1692] Possible HSV?

Hi Terri,So here's the deal the skin on my penis has been really weird these last two months. Firstly I have these two red/pinks mark on the shaft of my penis the larger one is from the base to a hit of the scrotum, and the second one is a couple of cm on top of it. They get shinny and the skin gets really dry sometimes.I also hooked up with a chick around this time, and I'll admit my hygene is not the greatest.Every since they've come about I've been very proactive at looking for any lesions that might appear on my penis. First on January 4th I had this pretty large friction burn on the right side of my shaft. I'm pretty sure it was because of these boxers I've bought. The material isn't the greatest and I had an erection and kept holding and twisting while erect. I was also dry humping my gf. Then about four days ago I was examining my shaft again and this time on the left side of my shaft I noticed what looked like a lesion. At first it looked like a hair follicle because I noticed a tiny black dot there, and my skin in that area looked a bit dented like most of my hair follicle down there. I kept picking at it because of my anxiety and a tiny bit of clear liquid and blood came out. I'm scared and confused because I don't know if it's HSV. The lesion was never raised, never a blister, and it's just a single one. It started scabbing pretty quickly after I first scratched it, but it won't fully heal because I keep picking at it. And now it won't even scab but it isn't an open wound neither.1) Is it possible I picked up herpes from this girl two months ago? I'm talking to her now she's saying she's clean?2) I've been reading about yeast infections as well. Is it just the foreskin it affects or could it be the shaft as well? 3) could it have been a hair follicle that I made worse by picking at it? I'm going to the docs today. I can't do a swab because it's dry should I do the igg?A part of my thinks my anxiety is taking control of my actions right.

Good morning,
The shiny dry skin sounds far more like a fungal infection than herpes, to me. The large friction burn (if we are thinking of that in the same way) also sounds more fungal than herpetic. I used to see a lot of men in my practice who had actual stripes down the side of the penis that were always fungal infections, acquired most often from having sex with a woman who had yeast in the vagina during intercourse (yeast is normal for some women to have - it is only a problem when it overgrows). The lesion issue is less clear to me and might be harder for your doctor to diagnose also because you've picked at it and changes it's normal state, but honestly it doesn't sound herpetic either but the best person to decide that is someone that you see in person. If your doctor thinks it is possibly herpes but is too old to swab test, then an IgG would be appropriate, yes. Will you let me know how this goes with your visit today?

Hey Terri.
Just got back and the doctor told me it was nothing to worry about. She said it looked like a follicle spot that I was picking at and if I kept going it would get infected. She said the pain I described was nothing like herpes and it wouldve hurt a lot more. Also it didn't look like it. I asked twice if I should do the test and she confidently told me twice I shouldn't.
She also said the pink skinny spots are nothing to worry about. I'm thinking of just dropping this whole situation. I have std anxiety. If you say it doesn't sound herpetic and my doctor says it doesn't look herpetic then I'm going to leave it at that.
It didn't look or sound like a herpes but I see all these descriptions and stories online and I get frightenend. Anyways thank you for your time

you are so welcome! Glad you had a reassuring visit with your doctor and she doesn't think it looks herpetic. You take care now.
