[Question #1776] HIV and other Testing Worries

Hello,
I am having a 10 test panel that includes the early detection RNA for HIV done 9-11 days after exposure as well as urine samples for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and trich. I am also getting and oral swab for chlamydia and gonorrhea. Last week I had some botox injections in my face. I was wondering if there is any reason to worry about the botox interfering with any of my blood or urine test results.......mostly any HIV test I take? Please help me set my mind at ease. Thank you for this site. I spoke with my cousin who is a doctor, but I wanted an expert opinion. I am getting the test done this Friday, so I hope I will be able to get an answer from you all soon. Thank you

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your qeustion.

It would be helpful to know more about the sexual exposure you are concerned about. Are you male or female? Your partner? Commercial sex? Vaginal, anal, or oral sex? Which way(s)?
Going directly to your question about botulinum toxin (Botox), no worries at all. It will not interfere with any of the tests you had. My guess is your doctor cousin said the same thing, right?
I would also advise not having a 10 test panel only 9-11 days after exposure. Of the tests you mention, gonorrhea and chlamydia testing will be valid, and so will HIV RNA testing. But all other blood tests take 4-6 weeks -- and for HSV, 3 months -- for valid results. And many tests in such panels are usually unnecessary and a waste of money.
Fill in the missing information and I can give you more precise advice.
