[Question #18] IGg HSV2 results

Per your suggestion in output previous correspondence, I was tested for HSV2 IGg antbodies. Labcorp did the test, their reference range is 0-.9. My results came back as 1.19. The CDC site says there may be false positives in low reference ranges of chemoluminescence in certain tests. Should I get an additional test or is it safe to say I cannot get herpes from my partner. I have an excellent internist , but I thing this is beyond his fund of knowledge.
Thanks.

Yes, about 5% of the time the HSV 2 index value comes back between 1.1 and 3.5 and about 50% of those are false positives. 95% of the time the answer is a clear negative or positive. So yours was a complicated one. You need the herpes western blot to confirm this. There is an 85% chance, at 1.19, that this is a false positives but I have seen values as low as 1.14 confirm with western blot so one cannot be too certain in this range about anything. Our clinic, westoverheights.com, can order the western blot for you to be drawn at a local Quest lab near you and shipped to the University of Washington OR you can contact the UW directly for a kit to be shipped to you and you can have your clinician draw your blood and ship it for you. Either way. But you do need confirmation. I would not have the western blot drawn until it has been four months since your last possible date of infection.

How do I go about contacting you directly so you can order the western blot through quest. Quest would be easier since they have the capability to handle and ship the serum correctly. There is also a quest lab across the street from where I live. Thanks.

You can go to westoverheights.com, get the clinic contact info, call to make an appointment for a phone consultation and we'll go over all the details and get the western blot ordered for you.
