I had not had sex in five years then I had oral sex and vaginal sex with a condom on May 28 2016. A month later I started itching and thought I saw a red spot on my labia minora. A week or so later I started feeling very uncomfortable, raw feeling in my vagina. Went to the doc, said I thought I had herpes, she said looks red and aggravated but does not look like herpes. She said I had a few yeast and BV. Got meds and went home. After that my skin became hypersensitive. I had to cut all of my tags out of my shorts. Now March 31, my skin still burns and tingles at times in my buttocks, thigh areas, and my vagina . Skin burning is really noticeable when i sit. I use to shave my vagina daily but it hurts to do so now. Masturbation leads to being uncomfortable. I have not had sex since May 28. I got a full STD workup Feb 2017, IgG herpes test. Herpes 1 positive, 32.7, but I have had cold sores since a child. Herpes 2, neg <0.91. I am so confused as everything I search on the internet says Genital Herpes. Could I be the one percent false negative blood test. The burning seems to be getting worse. I fly a lot and I swear the leather or whatever the seats are make it ten times worse. I have a 15 hour flight coming up and I am dreading it.

I should add buring gets worse around menstrual cycle. My skin seems itchy all over. And little red bumps pop up. Look like whelps,Also I was so convinced I had GH I started taking acyclovir twice daily about a week or so before my test. And took valtrex almost every month for three days during my menstrual cycle.

I don't think the antiviral medicines would influence your test at this point. And it would be quite unusual to have rather constant symptoms with HSV 2. I'm wondering if you might have a staph or strep infection genitally? I've seen that not uncommonly cause these kinds of symptoms and a course of antibiotics resolves it - you might want to talk with your doctor about that possibility? The western blot picks up about 5% more HSV 2 infections than the IgG test - you could decide to do that to get more certainty about the HSV 2 question - I could help you arrange that if you have difficult obtaining it.
So you get little red bumps all over your skin, not just genitally? Herpes wouldn't cause that but it might be good to know what that's all about - allergy docs might be helpful?

So now if I try to shave I have razor burn bumps or atleast that is what I call them. And my vagina just hurts so I leave it alone. If I even clip my hair It hurts later. What confuses me is the burning and hot skin from sitting and tingling . And when I say hot skin I mean it's burning. The toilet the tub feels like relief .

I am so unclear about what might be causing this nerve hypersensitivity in the genital area but I think it would be worth testing with the blot to be certain. Do you have any medicine for your cold sores like acyclovir? You could try taking it to see if things improve genitally but I would be shocked if this was herpes. I also think you should return to your doctor and tell the doctor things are getting worse, not better, and ask for other suggestions for a diagnosis and treatment possibilities. Genital herpes would not cause bumps on your face nor on your trunk. Perhaps a dermatology visit would also be helpful. This sounds so unpleasant - I'm sorry you are going through this.

So would taking antiviral drugs stop the tingling at day three? I would not stop tingling and I started my antivirals o Friday and I feel no tingling today but still an unhappy vagina because I shaved my bikini line.

I honestly don't know what is going on or why the antivirals are helping. I've consulted with Dr. Hook about your case and neither of us know what might be causing your symptoms. Your sexual contact was condom protected and I honestly don't think all of this is herpes. Your antibody test was negative for HSV 2 and though the test can miss a few cases, that's a long shot. If you want the best answer about whether you have HSV 2 or not, you can get the herpes western blot from the University of Washington. If the test is negative, which I expect it will be, I think you are looking at something else and then a dermatology visit is in order.
Best of luck sorting this out.
