[Question #210] Herpes.

Is it possible to have BOTH Herpes 1 AND Herpes 2 genitally? I was diagnosed with Herpes 1 & 2. I have never had a visual cold sore. So I imagine I have Herpes 2 genitally and Herpes 1 orally. I have had genital Herpes symptoms (which prompted the testing of myself and my boyfriend). But I imagine it's not possible to have BOTH herpes 1 & 2 genitally in the same person. So I must have Herpes 2 genitally and Herpes 1 orally. Any thoughts?

Hi Diane,
Did you post another question under your full name? I thought maybe you had posted the other question because it had a last name attached. Now I realize that these questions are slightly different. I deleted the other post because it had a last name and I thought perhaps that was an error.
Anyway - It is possible to have both HSV 1 and 2 genitally, yes, but certainly not common. Statistically, you would have HSV 1 orally and HSV 2 genitally, yes. I would agree.
Let me know about the other post and if it was yours, OK?

Terri, yes, both questions were mine. Thank you for clarifying both. I really am good to go now. I can't thank you enough. On a side note, I wanted to tell you that I bought your book "The good news about the bad news" when I was first diagnosed. Actually, I bought 2 copies. One for me and one for my significant other. It was the best book out of the myriad books I read on the subject. A huge resource and relief. You really touch peoples lives and provide peace of mind regarding such an emotional subject. I was so surprised when it was you who answered my questions. I had no idea you were a part of the ASHA service. Like a gift from the universe, as odd as that may sound. Wishing you the best of everything. Thanks again. Oh, please delete this post, too. I had no idea about using my name. I thought it was confidential and didn't realize others could see my post. I am a little behind the curve when it comes to anything on-line. Thanks again.

Thank you for those very kind words, Dian, you truly made my day. This post only has your first name on it and no one can identify who you are. We like to leave posts up a bit so others can glean information from your question and my answer but if you want me to take it down, I will. I think with the other post, you somehow filled in your whole name on the user name space but fortunately, I was at the computer very close to the time it came in and I grabbed it right away so I don't think others really saw it. If you want me to deleter this right away, I certainly will.
