[Question #2197] Risk with unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex

Hello Expert,
I had unprotected oral sex and protected vaginal sex with a girl. What are my chances of HIV through this exposure? Also what are the chances of hsv with unprotected oral sex ? There were no sores or blisters or wounds on her lips or face. Prior to this incident I was negative for both hsv1&2.

It's been 15 days and I don't have any symptoms. Also I read in medhelp forum that dr. Hunter said if there are no symptoms or blister in 3 weeks then consider you did not contract hsv. Is it true? Is the statement still valid?

Welcome to our Forum, sort of. I see that you have already asked Terri much the same question and I agree with the message she has provided you. Please remember that even if your partner did have oral HSV far less than 1% of exposures lead to infection. The exposure that you describe was very low risk for acquisition of HSV and the fact that you did not develop lesions in the interval since your exposure is further evidence that you were not infected. FYI, Dr. Handsfield has also indicated to me that you misquoted him in your earlier interaction with Terri. While if someone acquires HSV and is looking for an outbreak they most often do note symptoms, not all persons who become infected do. Given the low risk nature of your experience and the fact that you have not developed and HSV outbreak since your receipt of oral sex, if I were you I would not worry further and would not seek testing.
I hope this affirmation of our prior posts, as well as your own earlier interaction with Terri in which she suggested that you appear to be overthinking things will allow you to move on without concern. EWH

so based on my exposure, you think I did not contract HSV? Sorry not doubting you, just want to make sure that's what you meant. You know i am under a lot of stress, and responses from people like you and Terri greatly eases my mind. You would suggest no testing right?

Correct, that is what I intended for you to understand from my response. I see no need for testing. EWH

What about other STIs. I had NSU and it is cleared completely with doxy.

And can I have sex with my girlfriend? Unprotected

You are clearly quite anxious about the encounter you have described. Condoms are the best mechanism for prevention of STIs following sex with an infected partner and your vaginal sex was condom protected. You do not know that your partner was infected. Oral sex only relatively rarely leads to infection. When it does, the
most common problems are either gonorrhea of non-gonococcal urethritis NGU)
caused by mouth organisms introduced in to the urethra during sex. This
sort of non-chlamydial NGU is not clearly and STI in the traditional sense and you have taken doxycycline for NSU which would cure this problem, most gonorrhea if you had it, and prevent syphilis. It is really time for you to move on and get back to your normal life. If I were you from what you have told me (and Terri) I would not hesitate to have unprotected sex with your girlfriend.
This is the third and final response to this series of questions which are becoming anxiety-driven, something that the
forum does not permit. This
will have to be your last one; future new questions on this topic will be
deleted without reply and without refund of your posting fee. This policy is based
on compassion, not criticism, and is designed to reduce temptations to keep
paying for questions with obvious answers; because experience shows that
continued answers tends to simply prolong such anxieties, when the real answer
normally should be professional counseling; and because such questions have
little educational value for other users, one of the forum's main purposes. I
trust you will understand. EWH
