[Question #2278] HIV Risk and Testing Advice

I went to a "massage" place in NE Seattle and the woman, in her 40's, was here from China.  3 times over the course of a week I engaged in unprotected vaginal sex.  All three were very lubricated and less than 5 minutes.  I am circumcised.   Question is your opinion of HIV risk and testing timeframe and advice.

Welcome to our Forum.  It will be my pleasure to comment.  In terms of HIV there is little risk for infection.  Most commercial sex workers, irrespective of their country of origin, are not infected with HIV.  Your risk for infection with HIV from this exposure is very low. On the other hand, given that your partner is willing to have unprotected sex with clients, I would be most concerned about your potential exposure to other STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea and trichamonas.  All of these infections can be easily tested for with a urine test obtained as you begin to urinate.  I would suggest you do this.  While your risk for HIV is low, you can be completely confident that you do not have HIV (or syphilis- also quite unlikely) with a blood test taken 4-6 weeks after your last exposure.  In the interim however, were I you, I would not be worried.  EWH
