Dear Dr, I am a gay male. I tested negative for hiv in april. My exposure post that has been getting sucked by another gay male without a condom. he sucked my penis for about a minute and then gave me a handjob. I am not sure of his status..he sid that he tested last six months ago and as negative then. I am worried that since he suked me without a condom i might be at risk. Do i need PEP after this exposure? Am I at risk for HIV? What about risk of other sexually transmitted diseases? Kindly help. Request your opinion in this matter. Thanks Dr

Welcome to the Forum. I'll be happy to comment. The exposure you describe, receiving oral sex from a partner of unknown HIV status, was a virtually no risk event. Even if your partner had HIV (and you do not know that he did), the highest estimates of risk from him performing oral sex on you are that infections occur about once in every 10,000 exposures and we believe these estimates are a bit high. neither of us has ever heard or seen a person who acquired HIV from receiving oral sex form and infected person. If this was your only exposure you certainly do not need PEP and in my opinion, because I consider this a virtually no risk encounter, I do not see any medical need for testing related to this exposure. I would not worry and hope that my comment helps you to not worry as well,. EWH

I was just alerted that this is your 7th question asking about the risks of exposures such as touching and kissing. Both Dr. Handsfield and I have answered these sorts of questions for you in the past and in your last interaction with Dr. Handsfield he warned you the future questions of this sort would be deleted. I acidentally answered the question you asked before rather than closing the thread. I will now close the thread as you were warned of this previously. I trust you will understand. EWH---
