[Question #2294] Herpes

Hi Mrs Terri,

First random question but do you think there are celebrities/rappers/athletes, actor, actresses that have genital herpes?
Next question is if I'm on current meds daily and I take a shower with someone, and we're holding each other close, maybe I am erect or not, maybe a lil friction but no penetration should things be ok?? What if I had sex in the shower or jacuzzi would that make it any safer?

well, of course there are celebrities/rappers/athletes, actor, actresses that have genital herpes!  One in four women in the US and one in six men in the US have HSV 2.  Not sure what you are asking this, but the answer is yes.
Yes, things should be OK in the shower in the situation you describe.  Having sex in the shower or jacuzzi would not reduce the risk of transmission, no.

If I want to have a baby and we decide to have a baby, what is the risk of transmission for that unprotected sex If I am taking the antiviral pill 500mg daily? And how much greater is the chance of transmission without the pill. And no recent breakouts as well

If you have HSV 2 genitally, the AVERAGE transmission rate to a female partner not using condoms but taking antiviral therapy, having sex about twice per week, is about 5% (that is, out of 100 women in this situation, 5 will become infected in year).  Without the pill, the risk is about 10%.  Does that help?

Ok so In another sense, I contracted this back in late April, am I still more contagious right now? I only sex twice since I contracted this. Two women two diff times protected. I take the medicine everyday day. What if I have sex this weekend and for whatever reason the Condom broke or I slip it in unprotected, what's the risk for her? I haven't had a outbreak since the first time over 2months ago

If you contracted this is April, then you are most infectious to other during the first 6 months of having herpes.  If you had protected intercourse, it is so unlikely that you would get herpes but possible certainly.  If you have sex with a condom and it breaks or comes off, there is a risk of transmission to another person, yes.  I can't give you an exact percentage but it is low for a single contact.
