[Question #23] Herpes follow up

Hello,
I just wanted to check also whether I need to be concerned about someone who has herpes/cold sore and is working in a restaurant? I am not sure if the cashier did, but it looked like it, and he handed me my cup.
I tested negative with a herpes culture, and hsv 1 and hsv 2 blood test, but hard to shake the worry.

I'm sorry you are worried, you are not the only person who has asked this kind of question.
There is no risk of you acquiring HSV from a cashier at a restaurant who has a cold sore on their lip, none. Herpes is not transmitted in this way.
What did you have cultured?

I scraped myself on accident and had a little spot. It did not hurt at all, and my doctor said she was like 80% sure it wasn't it but did the culture to be sure. The culture came back negative. Then I took the blood test and it came back negative. I am now worried about getting it as well.

There isn't a way that you would get herpes in this situation. Have you worried about getting herpes before?

No. When the doctor said that it caused a lot of stress and worry. I have had many doctors tell me to believe in these results and to trust that I won't get it from someone else by touching doorknobs, etc but just been battling those thoughts.i have def got a lot better but every now and then situations scare me.

I think you are saying that what the doctor told you caused you lots of stress and worry. I'm guessing that maybe the doctor told you this might be a way to get herpes? If that's what they told you, they are mistaken. Good for you for getting better and moving past this concern. You are going to encounter lots of people in your life with cold sores but unless you are kissing them or they are giving you oral sex or you are sharing lipstick with them, you need not worry.
This is your final post on this thread. If you have more questions, you can renew but I think you have all the information that you need already.
Best,
Terri
