[Question #2324] help!

I had penile/vaginal frottage briefly with a dancer 16 days ago.  then I had brief protected oral and vaginal sex with another dancer 13 days ago.  no lesions noted, but some redness bilaterally on my scrotal skin folds to either side of the penis, occasional itching, self treated with anti-fungal for suspicion of tinea cruris.  Today, protected oral and vaginal with a third girl but now I have some transient shooting sharp pains around the rim of my penis, which I'm hoping is just from the sucking I received today.  the rim of my penis was only exposed with the brief frottage from 16 days ago.  Dr Hunter/Dr. Handsfield/ or Terri, what are my chances of having contracted HSV2?  my skin was intact, and I already have HSV1 for many years.  the girls had no visible lesions, not that that matters from what I've read.  I'm kind of freaking out.  The girls provided the condoms, and the girl from 13 days ago I can't guarantee it was a latex condom (vs. lamb) but she is a very savvy girl, and I doubt she would use something other than latex, it was a very thick gold colored condom.  neither condom broke.   to summarize:  1. unprotected brief frottage 16 days ago, 2. covered oral and vaginal 13 days ago, about 2-4 minutes tops, 3. about 4-5 minutes covered oral and vaginal today.     no visible lesions on anyone, some shooting pains around different spots of circumference under rim, but one spot in particular, no alteration of the skin integrity.    Please help!

I honestly think that your risk here is very low for acquiring herpes.  You use of condoms and no vaginal penetration with the first person suggest that your exposure was definitely very limited.  The scrotal fold redness is likely fungal.  If you develop any lesions or sores, please go in and have them swab tested right away for HSV - preferably using PCR, a specialized swab test.  Keep an eye on the one spot in particular that feels different.  I think frottage has limited chance of transmitting herpes - not impossible but unlikely.  Please let me know if this changes at all.

thanks Terri.  assuming that the most likely exposure came from the frottage, I was feeling (falsely?) confident due to the time that had passed.  Please keep my question open and I'll let you know if anything changes.  I am really hoping the pains are from the activity today.  Thanks for all you and the Drs. do!

While we cannot say there is zero risk from frottage, it is certainly less than for unprotected intercourse.

I'm still having these pains which may or may not be related to soft tissue trauma from the sex ...no clear lesions....I'm going to keep an eye on it and try not to freak...if I'm clear through the weekend without lesions I'm going to not worry about it ... this could cost me my marriage and I feel like an idiot. I hope that your low risk assessment is on my side....thanks again Terri

You're so welcome, Justin, I know this time is incredibly stressful and you are full of angst, but my opinion remains that you risk is very low indeed.  You take care now.
