[Question #2364] His risk w hsv2 from frottage

Despite my attempts to play safe I think it's fair to say that I have a newly acquired hsv-2 infection likely from penile vaginal  frottage because it was my only unprotected exposure.... and it is a doozy.  in addition to my whole lap feeling like it's been dipped in peppermint oil I have a painful urethral tip with two little bumps inside the meatus, malaise, and muscle soreness. Circumference of rim has some lesions w pain.  I have two questions: 1. am I at risk for HIV from that exposure since it gave me the hsv-2 so easily? There was no unprotected insertion- I also had two protected vaginal insertions after that exposure.  Second question I am on Valtrex 1 G bid...day 2 of 7.... when can I expect the suppression to take hold because I don't want to spread this to my wife.. I have a full panel pending but it's only been 3 weeks from the first exposure which I suspect was the infecting exposure

Justin, if you have lesions around the head of your penis and lesions in the urethra, you need to go right now, today, and get an in person evaluation and swab test for herpes.  Don't decide that you know what is going on here yourself - you don't.  Get a professional evaluation.  Go to urgent care or Planned Parenthood or your own provider.  It was a big mistake to take the medicine before someone had an opportunity to swab the lesions that you describe because now the swab test may not be accurate but at least  someone can look at it and give you their impression.  On the other hand, if you have a script for Valtrex, perhaps you got that from someone who already has seen you for this and thought it was herpes?  Let me know the answer to this right away please.

They are very faint nearly imperceptible and I asked the doctor about a PCR swab and they said they don't offer that so I'm going to see if the aids clinic can do it and head over there

The PCP gave me the medicine he was a little equivocal about it said it was low risk exposure and did not have typical appearance but he didn't see the meatus part, I discovered that today ...went digging because of the pain also had a new little single pimple crust on my supra pubic area, itched then burned. It's becoming more generalized which is somewhat disturbing

Justin, you need to pay attention to what the clinicians are saying to you.  If the lesions are imperceptable, that's not "a doozy" of a first outbreak.  They said it did not have a typical appearance. If you went "digging" today, you may be seeing something that has been there for a long time and is normal.  I personally, from everything you have said, don't think you have acquired herpes in this situation.

You have used up all three posts, and I believe that these are anxiety driven posts that are not allowed on this site and for that reason, no more posts will be accepted and if you post them anyway, they will be deleted without a refund.

My advice is to try to have them swab tested, if no one can do it, wait 12 weeks from the encounter and do and IgG test.

Best
