[Question #2369] Risk assessment - skin rash on back

Hello Doctor.

I had a an erotic massage (probably more sensual than erotic) about 10 days ago. The massage guy was in his underwear the whole time and there was no sex (just a hand-job at the end). The only other contact was when he massaged me (of course) and one time when he got on my back to get better leverage (again, he was in his underwear).

This morning I noticed that in the center of my back, between my shoulder blades, there are several (5-10) zit-like bumps that are semi-itchy.

Could these bumps be an STD (herpes) from my massage? Should I go get this checked-out at Urgent Care?

Thank you for your assessment.

Note: This has been a very stressful two weeks for me. My pet died and a close friend just went into hospice. So, I am really stressed right now and am not sure if any of this is related (I am sure it is not helping).

I'm so sorry for the lost of your pet and sad that your friend went into hospice.  Those are very stressful things, I can only imagine.
There is zero risk of herpes transmission in the situation that you describe - zero.  Herpes does not pass through underwear and it is not transmitted via masturbation.  I don't believe that you need to be check at urgent care for herpes, no.

So hoping your week gets better than it has been so far.
