[Question #2393] Sti from brief cunnilingus with stripper

I made a huge mistake.  I went to a strip clip and went to the VIP room.  The girl offered to perform fellatio with a condom.  I was not interested and declined.  Regretfully she stood above me and for some unknown reason I performed cunnilingus on her for a very brief period.  I was very intoxicated so it's hard to know how brief, but I suspect one minute at most.  I feel absolutely awful and can't believe I let this happen.  I'm terrified I may give something to my wife.  The stripper was in her mid to late 20s.  I feel fine 3 days after the encounter but have a little bit of a scratchy throat.  I had no cracked gums or mouth sores that I'm aware of.  I can only imagine how many men she engages in this with.  Such a horrible indiscretion on my part.  Do I need to get tested or is this encounter low enough  risk that it doesn't make sense?  I can't imagine a stripper could be low risk.  I feel sick just thinking about it.  Thanks in advance for your advice.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll be glad to comment.

Among the various penetrative sex acts, cunnilingus is probably the lowest risk for acquisition of infection, even if your partner did happen to have an STI and, while STI rates are higher among commercial sex workers than the general population, most CSWs are still do not have STIs.  Further, even if she had an STI, as I mentioned above most exposures to infected partners do not lead to infection.  The STIs which you are potentially are at highest risk for would be gonorrhea.  chlamydia does not infect the throat well.  There is no risk for HIV or hepatitis and the risk for acquisition of herpes or syphilis is a small fraction of 1%.

Your symptoms are unlikely to be due to any STI as most oral STIs are asymptomatic.

Whether or not you test is, of course up to you.  If you wish to test, from a medical perspective the only test you might want is a throat swab taken for gonorrhea (typically a chlamydia test would be done on the same specimen).  If I were you I would not be worried and would not test but of course, I am not you.  I really not worry however.  I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

Thank you, Doctor.  That is reassuring and based on this info I'm leaning towards not getting tested.  If I did contract gonorrhea would it resolve on its own?  What are the chances that I would infect my partner?  Should I refrain from oral sex with my wife or be concerned about transmission through saliva or kissing?

Yes, if you acquired gonorrhea of the throat, it would most likely be asymptomatic and resolve on tits own.  You risk of transmitting it to someone by kissing in tiny and close to non-existent.  Risk for transmission through oral sex is likewise miniscule.  If I were you, I would probably not bother to test.  EWH

I'm worried because I now have a small red sore on the inside of my cheek that appeared out of nowhere.  Could this be a symptom of syphillis?  If it is syphillis would it become obvious and would the sore look very nasty?  Can I pass this on to my partner?

When syphilis occurs in the mouth (a very rare event) it is typically on the tongue or the palate, not the cheek.  The lesion you describe is far more likely to be a stress-related canker sore than anything else.  I would not worry.  If you choose to test with a syphilis  blood test, I am confident the test will be negative.  EWH

As you probably know, we permit up to three responses to clients' questions.  This is my third response.  Thus this thread will be closed later today.  Please try not to worry.  EWH
