[Question #2431] Herpes maybe

Hi 5 days ago I had unprotected sex with a woman, Im married shes married, a big mistake and am guilt stricken.  She assures me that she is 100% sti std free, but you never know.  a day and a half later I noticed a little bum on the bas of my penis, looked like an ingrown hair, but I always think the worst.   I am 39 years old and have never had an std.  its now been 3 and a half days and the bump is still there. I keep touching in through out the day to see if there is a hair in there, which I am sure keeps making it red because when I wake up in the morning it doesn't look bad at all.  There is no pain with it really and it hasn't gotten worse at all, but hasn't gotten better either.  I can send a picture if possible.  I am really guilt stricken and feel horrible and if this is herpes I don't know what to do.   Please help

The normal incubation period for new herpes from the time of exposure is 2-10 days  so your bump would be early for new herpes.  If you are quite clear that this was not present before the sexual encounter, you should have a clinician look at the bump just to be certain.  New herpes normally looks like water blisters.  It sounds to me like your bump is more solid?  Also, usually herpes changes in it's appearance over time so the fact that it is not changing over a three day period also speaks against it being herpes.  And quit touching it!  Also, herpes tends to be somewhat tender if not painful, but not for everyone.

Do you think you could have it evaluated in person?

I have been so frantic it could have actually been 2 and a half days.  but it has not changed at all doesn't look like a water blister.  Is it possible to send you picture?  I need to find a dr, I don't have insurance and don't have a regular dr

I'm so sorry but we don't accept pictures on this site.  Try going to Planned Parenthood - they do STD evaluations all the time
