Dear doctors,

1.  The IgG test misses about 30% of HSV 1 infections compared to the gold standard herpes western blot so it is possible that your testing missed it in the past.  It is also possible that you acquired this from your partner through oral sex even if she did not have a sore present
2.  Normally, with first infection, we see lesions at the site of the infection - i.e., the penis, not the groin
3.  Are you saying it disappeared in a single day?  That is unlikely to be herpes
4.  Hard to say - I've seen people who've had sex together for 20 years and then transmitted herpes - there is just no way to know for sure
5.  It could be folliculitis, a bacterial infection or herpes - irritation from other causes I suppose is also possible
6.  The infection would happen first on the penis and then move along a different nerve for a recurrence
7.  OK
8.  Without seeing this or swab testing it, I simply cannot say - you need an in-person evaluation
9.  A first infection is often painful, yes

Herpes symptoms last 3-14 days.  I don't know when you last tested but you can test again in about 12 weeks from the time you got the something that scabbed over.  If you start medicine, it ca really throw off the test so if you were my patient, I would say don't take medication. Once someone is infected in one place on their body, they are very unlikely to get it at a new location.  Has your partner been tested to know her result?  Herpes often is tender to the touch and often itches.  You don't need to avoid any foods - you have no idea if you even have herpes or not!

Hi Nurse,

Herpes would not react to antibiotic cream, no.  Herpes is a virus and antibiotic creams are for bacteria, not viruses. 
And you are correct, HSV 2 is very unlikely, given that you only had oral sex.  The symptoms of herpes would likely be sores or lesions somewhere in the genital area, usually for men on the penis or very nearby.  Your description of the groin area is a bit vague.   Again, something that disappears in a day is very unlikely to be caused by herpes.  The only thing that concerns me at all about your description is the scabbing. Scabbing suggests that there was something open that could scab but it could be some other kind of irritation besides herpes. 
If you have ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip, then you getting HSV 1 genitally is extremely unlikely.  Perhaps that can help you relax a bit if you've had a cold sore in your lifetime.
