How far away are we from a cure 

I think we are still a ways away from a cure,honestly.  But there is a treatment vaccine from a company called Genocea.  Our clinic worked on the clinical trials, and it looks very promising - they just released more data yesterday.  It is a treatment vaccine and  we hope that if that is combined with Valtrex, the shedding rate will be incredibly low.  Some people would probably prefer to get a periodic vaccine rather than taking a daily medicine.  And some people might like to combine the two.  There is nothing on the near horizon that has been carefully tested and evaluated.
