[Question #2535] Unprotected oral

Hi so I have been in a serious relationship for 10 years both us are std free I went and got a massage and she started rubbing me then started sucking me and I came in her mouth this all happened under 5 minutes I'm worried that I may have contracted something it's only been a day and I'm wondering how long it will take to see symptoms if I did get something or if I can go back to unprotected sex with my gf again do you think I should get tested before this  the lady was a lot older than me probably mid 50's  as I'm 24 I didn't notice any cuts on her mouth but this place was definitely shady she's defiantly been around the block...not really sure if I choose the right category btw

Welcome to our exposure.  The exposure that you describe was low but not no risk for STIs.  It sounds like your partner was a commercial sex worker.  Most commercial sex workers do not have STIs and oral sex only relatively rarely leads to infection.  When it does, the most common problems are either gonorrhea of non-gonococcal urethritis NGU) caused by mouth organisms introduced in to the urethra during sex.  Both of these syndromes would most likely be symptomatic within 5-7 days after an exposure.  In addition if you choose, test for gonorrhea and while rare in this situation, chlamydia could be performed at any time more than 3 days after your exposure and would provide reliable, accurate results.  There is virtually no risk for HIV and herpes and syphilis are unlikely was well.

The most expeditious approach for you in this situation is to go and get tested for gonorrhea (and chlamydia).  If these tests are negative, I would not be worried further and would feel comfortable having unprotected sex with my partner,

HI hope that this information is helpful.  EWH

Okay so if I have no symptoms after 7 days is it safe to say that I don't have anything? How likely is it if I caught something to show symptoms? Do you think I should get tested if I show no symptoms after a week And should I just test for gonnerhea and chlamaydia

Good questions.  First, the likelihood that you caught anything is low.  If you were infected, it is more likely than not that you would develop symptoms by 7 days ( most gonorrhea a nd about half of chlamydia [ which is very rare from oral sex] is symptomatic).  Testing would add another level of assurity, moving you level of confidence from 99% to 99.9%.  Personally I would not feel the need to test if asymptomatic after 7 days.

Hope this helps.  WH

No, condoms are highly effective in preventing both STI transmission and acquisition.  They are 99.9% effective for prevention of gonorrhea, chlamydia and similar diseases. They are somewhat less likely to prevent transmission of infections like herpes, syphilis, or genital warts because the condom may not prevent contact with a lesion but they are still highly effective.  in your circumstance however, I would still not be worried that you might have acquired an STI.

I hope my comments have been helpful.  As per Forum guidelines, this thread will be closed in a few hours without further replies.  Take care.  EWH
