Hello again dr, I just came back from the gynecologist after having cramping and lower back pain.  The Dr did a swab and noticed an inflamed cervix with a little discharge. I also gave a urine culture to rule out any bacteria that may cause a uti. Upon doing a test on my urine the Dr did not notice protein in the urine it was negative for everything.  This was the same problem I had when I went in for the second time and the Dr diagnosed me with m. Hominis infection. I was given antibiotics but the symptoms were still present. I did some research and noticed that my symptoms were similar to cervicitis. I tested negative for chlamydia and Gonnerrhea but I did test positive for Trich.  The trich was possibly treated with medication. The Dr.  told me that of it was treated then there is no way it can come back. I did a swab the second time that I went in and it came back negative for trich. I am baffled as to whyy cervix is inflamed.

I had no protein or anything in urine what does this mean? I am waiting for a culture
Can my inflamed cervix be due to herpes on the cervix?
What can this be?

Welcome back to our Forum.  I note that this is your 5th post over the past month.  In your posts, despite assurances from each of us to the contrary, you seem to continue to indicate a sense that these problems are an STI of some sort despite multiple negative tests and our collective (re-)assurances.  I think you need to believe your tests and work to get over your current concerns about an STI.

When providers care for patients they assess patients in several ways.  Part of this reflects observed findings such as, in your case, apparent observed inflammation of your cervix.  In such cases, tests are sometimes helpful for assessing the presence or absence of a specific infection (such as trichamonas, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc.) but in some instances, they are a bit non-specific.  Urine protein is an example of a non-specific test which can help health care providers in their efforts at management.   Cervicitis is a syndrome which refers to cervical inflammation.  While some cervical inflammation may be due to specific infections such  trichamonas or other STIs, in many instances it is NOT due to an infection.  Other processes can causes inflammation of the cervix - these include medications, other illnesses or for reasons that simply are not understood.  In your case, the cervical inflammation that your physician sees may be non-specific and I urge you not to assume that it reflects an STI.  Your multiple negative tests are very strong evidence that this is not the case.  As hard as it may be, my advice is for you to do your best to not worry about the inflammation that your doctor has seen.  I hope you will find this perspective helpful.   EWH

Thanks for the reassurance. I decided to inspect myself and noticed that I had yellow discharge and it freaked me out. I will not have the results of my labs NY Monday and I am on pins and needles

Given your past information, I anticipate your tests will be negative.  If (when :)) they are negative, I urge you to move forward without further concern.  Obviously if they are positive for a pathogen (remember, mycoplasma hominis is not a pathogen, as Dr. Handsfield indicated to you in the past).  Please let us know if that is not the case. Hello Dr.  The suspense was killing me so I decided to go to the ER for faster results. The ER nurse conducted a swab. She did not see any lesions or anything that indicated a STI. She did noticed an inflamed cervix with green discharge. She told me my cervix was really red and was concerned that this can spread to my pelvis and cause pid. She gave me a shot of doxy and prescribed Flagyl to take 3 times a day for 10 days.  She took my swabs and told me they came back negative for trich BV and yeast. She told me that the discharge is coming from the cervix and it's probably a bacteria that they did not test for or that it's probably just bacteria out of place in the vagina.  I never heard of this. I am negative for everything but I have these symptoms. I  am not sure if I should take the Flagyl because I want to make sure the gyno says she same. What should I do and what type of infection can this be? Can I have kids?

Sigh.  Your pattern or anxiety and repeated care seeking is unlikely to help you, just is seeing different doctors again and again.  The flagyl you received was syndromic therapy which I have described for you above and you have chosen to ignore, in much the same way that you have chosen not to wait for your test results.  Similarly, there is nothing to suggest that anything you have concerns with would have a negative effect on your fertility....in fact that is an entirely separate issue. My advice is to check with your regular GYN, not to seek care from health care providers who have not seen you before and are unlikely to see you in the future.  I really don't have too much to say beyond that.

This my third reply to this set of questions.  thus this thread will be closed later today and there will be no further responses.  I would also suggest that, rather than returning to our site yet again, you discuss your continuing concerns with you regular health care provider.  EWH
