[Question #2675] HIV/ STD Concern - Very Worried

Hi Doctor,

3 days ago I had an encounter with a transsexual sex worker. I do not know the status of HIV or other STD's. Before the incident I had a soar throat. Since the incident my symptoms have increased, stomach pains, soar throat, tired, nauseous feeling. My anxiety is through the roof, I am unable to concentrate on nothing else and have trouble sleeping. Also, my anus is soar.

With the transsexual we had mutual masturbation, possible frottage (very little, if any), and she fingered my anus with a condom on (for a majority of the time). She did the fingering and masturbation to me which took less than 90 seconds.

I'm very worried because my symptoms have gotten worse. I'm worried about any and all STD's, especially HIV and HEP ABC. Please help!

Also, Planned Parent hood said that this was a low risk encounter, which worries me.

Welcome to the Forum.  I am more confident than the folks you saw at Planned parenthood and can say with confidence that he activities you describe (frottage, receipt of masturbation, including anal) are no risk activities that you need not be concerned about.  Irrespective of whether your partner had an STI of any sort of not, the activities you describe are no risk for STIs, including HIV.  My suspicion is that the sore throat you have is getting worse because that is the natural history of your illness, unrelated to your exposure.  Further, I suspect that your anxiety is acting to heighten the intensity of your symptoms- this is a common occurrence.  Further 3 days is far too early for HIV or hepatitis ABC to cause symptoms.  Please do not worry, you are not at risk and do not need testing for the activities you describe.  EWH
