[Question #2712] Hiv

I am aware that you are not supposed to piggyback on the previous question but I forgot to add some information in and I'm not sure if it will change your opinion or not. I did have oral sex for 15 seconds. (Only the clit) I have no idea why I would not have disclosed this the first time, maybe the situation just overwhelmed me. I know you said penetrative oral is the only gateway to hiv but does the tongue count as penateative?
I decided to tell my wife and she has been super supportive about my affair. However, I have had a few symptoms and I'm not sure if they are anxiety related or of concern. I developed one pimple looking growth in my pubic region. I also have had a sore throats that is not bad it's just there. It comes and goes. Also my tongue seems whiter than normal and seems irritated. My wife is an oncology nurse and she says it's not thrush. I have never have never had a fever at any time. I had a blood test at twenty days and am awaiting the results. Are they even able to pick up antibodies this early. I've scheduled coinciding and therapy to deal with my anxiety but until then I'm left with only doubt. Please answer this thread and I will be done asking any further questions.

Welcome back to the Forum and thanks for the additional information. Based on chance, I happened to pick up your question this time and agree with everything that Dr. Handsfield has said. As Dr. Handsfield mentioned, there is a difference between theoretical risks and what is seen clinically. Among penetrative sexual activities, cunnilingus is the least risky for acquisition of STI of any sort, including HIV. While there is a tiny risk for acquiring bacterial STIs such as gonorrhea from cunnilingus, that risk is so low that I would not worry. Having noted your stated concerns you may wish to have a throat swab test performed for gonorrhea and chlamydia for your own peace of mind. I am confident that if you test, the test will be negative.
As for your symptoms, they are not suggestive of any STI, including HIV. The pimple is likely folliculitis (a hair bump) and your occasional throat soreness is not a concern (most oral STIs are asymptomatic).
As for your 20 day blood test, this is early for a definitive result. While a combination HIV antigen/antibody test might detect the virus at 20 days, this is not a reliable test result. Most HIV tests can be detected at 4 weeks and all are detectable at 6 weeks. Once again however, I would point out that the exposure you describe was virtually no risk for HIV and is not something to worry about. Your tests are to confirm all that you have been told and will be negative of this i am confident. EWH

As far as the oral chlamidia and gonorrhea, I had a mouth swab at six days. Is that long enough to detect the bacteria?

Yes, those results are reliable and should be believed. EWH

Lastly, thanks for all that you do. Being it's my last question I will once again use it. If she had a high viral load does that increase my chances drastically or are the activities mentioned above so minor that it wouldn't really have an effect? Also, with the tongue issue, if it was oral thrush my wife said that is so rare in acute hiv. She also mentioned that in order to get oral thrush my immune system would have to be beaten down pretty bad and I would be presenting with many other symptoms. Does your expert opinion agree with this? Thanks for all that you do. ADIOS

While HIV is most transmissible when the viral load is high, my comments about the (absence of) risk were made irrespective of your partner's viral load (if they were infected which you do not know and which is very unlikely).
I agree with your wife. Thrush is very rare with acute HIV as it occurs when persons are profoundly immune suppressed for prolonged period.
This reply will complete my third and, as per forum guidelines, final reply as part of this thread. It is time for us both to move on. ewh
