just got tested and these were my results. I know I have HSV1, I get
cold sores a lot. But I'm concerned about the HSV2...I've never had an
issue in the genital area. Is it possible the HSV1 is causing results on
HSV2?

Your HSV 2 result is just barely over the cutoff for calling this positive. There is an 85% chance that this is a false positive. We used to think that the HSV 1 result impacted this HSV 2 value but in our most recent study, that was not confirmed, so I would say no that's not a factor. What you need is a herpes western blot to confirm or not confirm (hopefully) this result. You can get that one of two ways: Westover Heights Clinic, my clinic, can order this test for you to be drawn at a lab near you and shipped to UW or you can contact the UW lab directly and they will send you a kit, your doctor's office would draw the blood, spin it down and ship it back to UW. Both get the job done. The western blot is NOT a test that can be routinely ordered through Quest or LabCorp or any hospital lab.
If it was a betting woman, I would bet a considerable sum this will be negative.

How do I go via your clinic? I'm not in Portland.

We can do this over the phone. You'll need to set up a phone consultation - the information is on our website.
