Terri Warren,
Here I go again. Just paid $25 again after being unable to get my question through to you when I paid it the second time.
I wanted to give you a bit of background before we deal with the present situation. I was diagnosed 10 years ago with Herpes, when I had two open sores on my perineum. After about 3 months I stared using Valtrex and have been on 500 mg a day since with no further symptoms. My friend with whom I had passive anal sex the week before he had his infection has a short penis which I am sure would have encountered my perineum sent me the following account of his experience:
"Afew days after I returned from my visit with you, I started feeling an itch in the urethra at the base of my penis. I did not think much about it and the itch came and went for about two weeks. Since it did not seem to go away, I went to see my doctor. He checked my prostate and it was slightly swollen. He said it was likely Urethritis. My urine sample was taken. He prescribed Ciprofloxacin tabs 500 mg for 7 days. I was fine after 5 days of taking the drug. My doctor sent me a note 10 days afterwards saying my urine was clear.
So, I do not know what happened but it must have been some sort of bug which got into me. Since the lab reort of my urine was clear, I would not worry about it."
After getting this info from him, I calle and told him I have Herpes. He decided not to get tested at this point but to wiat a couple of months as he read thar the tests are not of value until a few months after you have been exposed. He said he would find a way to tell his husband that night. That was Monday and I have not heard from him since.
Do you think there is any diubt that he caught my herpesor could kit be coincidental that he got this urinary infection without having picked up herpes from me?
I ham having std tests run on myself tomorrow and will consult with the STD doctor here on Nov 30 which will be a week before he goes to hsee his famile in China. He says he wi

I'm so sorry that the system was not working for you. I will ask the administrators to please refund your money as I knew there was something not quite right about your posting - they let me know but I didn't know how to fix it.
So let me be sure I have all of this correct. So you had anal sex with this person - your anus, his penis, and was that unprotected? So after that, he had symptoms of urethritis, right? I think if the anal sex was unprotected, it is not a surprise that he may have picked up some bacteria from your rectum. Since the antibiotic cleared up the issue, I actually don't think this sounds like herpes. Just because your first symptoms 10 years ago were on the perineum, that doesn't mean that you will shed there frequently or that he is at particular risk if his penis or scrotum bumps up against your perineum. I understand why you are concerned about that but I'm not clear that you need to be concerned about that. It appears that your daily Valtrex is working well for suppression of symptoms so I"m thinking it is also working well to reduce viral shedding. It's good that you let him know about your herpes and good that he will get tested later, preferably 12-16 weeks from the contact. I'm just guessing that if he didn't have herpes before, his test will be negative.

Terri,
Thanks very much for the hopeful news and for intervening with your administrstive folks to get some of my money back.
You read it all correctly and the sex was protected during penetration at least. Tell Evelyn Resh hello for me as I have met her here in Boulder at the Conference on World affairs.
