[Question #2806] Last Question on websIte

Hello,

So things went very well for me after my previous question (please view previous question for my situation) . It turns out I miss read my test hsv1 results and they were actually tested as “inconclusive”. I then went and got another igg year and hsv1 came back negative. This summer, went to the university of Washington and received a negative western blot test which is 99% accurate. I’ve been enjoying the fact for the past year that I’m almost 100% positive I’m herpes free.

Now before I start, I’ll fully admit that I have anxieties about my herpes scare that lead overthinking which is why I’m leaving this site after this. Recently my friend got hsv1 on his mouth and was diagnosed through swabbing. I just saw his cold sore in person and it literally looked EXACTLY like what I had on my mouth, that was set aside and guessed to be angular chelitis. I had a rash/sore parallel on each corner of my mouth after having what I thought was strep throat. (Tested positive for strep) What he had literally looked identical to me but with only one rash. I just don’t get it. I’ve been clear on all medical tests, even the 99% western blot, but I had so many  signs of herpes with those exact sores (and then the pimple on genitals months later that I first asked about on his site). I just don’t know what to think of all this. I’ve actually been at peace with not having herpes until just now seeing my friend with my exact moth sores

In order to clarify your situation, you should have swab testing done of any future lesions.  Having said that, the western blot is 99% sensitive so I think herpes is very unlikely.  Angular chelitis and herpes can look very similar though HSV is normally on one side only.

Thanks for the response Terry.  I agree that I should have swab testing for future swabs, but I haven’t had any cold sores or acne on my genitals since the scare a year ago. Since it’s looking like a may see another lesion in the future, I’m unsure how to move forward. Bring negative on both IGG and western blot, should I completely identify as herpes free like anyone else who is endless I ever see something else?

Here's what I think - you should  consider yourself herpes free now, yes.  You've done the absolute best test available.  There is just nothing more that you can do.  And if you have another lesion, get it swab tested to reassure yourself, OK?  But for now, move on and believe that something else was going on.  Also, I would have expected you to see another lesion by now if HSV 1 - that's not certain of course, but likely.

Thanks Terri. I worry my anxiety  may end up ruining my long term happiness over something that could’ve been a silly pimple

exactly.  And you don't want to ruin your long term happiness!  Please consider putting this behind you at least for now and enjoy this one and only short life.
