[Question #2813] Red spot

I noticed recently I have a tiny red spot on the head of my penis. It is small about the size of sharp end of a pencil and it looks flat.  I recently received a hand job from a sex worker other then that I have not been active. So I am wondering if syphilis is a possibility. Could this just be a harmless spot or should I go in and get checked out?

No STD causes anything like this. Your description suggestions a hemangioma, sometimes called a blood vessel mole (but it's not a mole at all). Small hemangiomas can occur anywhere on the body; there is no special meaning for one that happens to be on the penis. Hemangiomas often appear or become more prominent over time; seeing one for the first time usually doesn't mean it just appeared, only that it was just noticed. Whatever the cause, almost certainly this is harmless and for sure not an STD. (And there is no STD risk from hand-genital contact, as Dr. Hook advised in your previous question.)

If you remain nervous, you could google hemangioma or maybe "hemangioma images" and see how yours matches up. Or see a doctor if you need further reassurance. But I'm pretty confident you have nothing to be worried about.

I did look at these images and doesn’t look anything like it.  I have very small dull red spot that just appeared on the head.

But I assume it is nothing to worry about based on your response and I will move on.

Some sort of minor irritation, perhaps. Really can't say more without seeing it (and we don't examine lesion photos -- sorry about that). But I remain confident it's not an STD. But if it enlarges or more such spots appear, I would recommend professional examination.
