[Question #2839] Can you help me out?

Hi Dr’s,

I am a relatively healthy 39 year old male.

On June 20th, I had a hook up with a girl I used to know years ago (haven’t seen her in 5 or 6 years). We spent the night together and had unprotected sex 3 times along with oral on each other.

A little over 3 months later (91 days post - Sept 19th) and anxiety getting the better of me – I went for a STD test (4th gen duo,  Hep A total, Hep A IgG, Hep A Igm, Hep B sAg, Syphilis EIA, Chlamydia PCR & Gonorehea PCR) and all was negative.

The week following, I found out that her father (who had died 3 years ago) passed away from complications of Hep C – I totally freaked out! On Sept 27th, (99 days post) I went for a Hep C Antibody test and again negative.

2 part question,

1, Is the 1st test 100% conclusive?

2, Is the 2nd Hep C Antibody test 100% conclusive at 99 days post possible exposer?

TIA

Welcome to our Forum and thanks for your confidence in our service.  I'm pleased to be able to assure you that your test results, both at 91 and 99 days after your encounter are conclusive.  you do not have any of the infections you tested for and do not need any further testing.

FYI, hepatitis C is rarely transmitted throguh household contact (like from the father to the daughter), nor is it often sexually transmitted.  When the infection is sexually transmitted, it is typically transmitted between men with other male sex partners in the context of receptive rectal intercourse.   Thus, acquisition of hepatitis C through heterosexual contact is very, very rare.

I hope these comments are helpful to you. EWH
