Welcome to the Forum.  Dr. Handsfield and I share the Forum and today I happened to pick up your question and will be answering it.  For your information, Dr. Handsfield and I have worked closely together for over 30 years and have always agreed in our assessments and advice.

Very small amounts of HIV have been found in the saliva of infected, untreated persons however there has never been a case of HIV transmission which has occurred by any route which has been proven to be the result of exposure to saliva.  Thus if you were exposed to an infected person's saliva there is no risk for infection. This is the case if you were kissing that person, if they spit on you, or if they performed oral sex on you, either at your penis or your rectum. There is no need to be concerned about saliva exposure and no reason to test if that is your only exposure.

I hope this comment is helpful.  EWH

Thank you.  Receipt of oral sex has never been proven to lead to acquisition of HIV,  If this was your only exposure, no need for testing, no need for concern.  EWH

I have just noted that Dr. Handsfield has asked you not to post further anxiety based questions such as this.  As a result, this thread will now be closed.  EWH
