10 wks back I had protected sex with two prostitute on different occasions on same day....I was ok but on 8 wks 6 days I developed sore throats which was followed by rhinorrhea and cough. But no fever .I searched net and found that condom may tear or slip..sorethroat may be manifestations of ARS....so on 10 wk I go for rapid 3rd generation hiv antibody test .,it was negative...mild congestion in chest still persist...can I take my result conclusive

Welcome to our Forum. I'll be glad to comment. Let me first congratulate you on your condom use and suggest to you that the internet is a poor place to seek information from. Much of what is said there is incorrect, misleading, or taken out of context. Your symptoms are NOT suggestive of recently acquired HIV and your HIV antibody test has proven that you were not infected through the exposures you described. Your results are conclusive and you do not need any further testing.
Let me please add a few facts.
1. There are some STIs which are more likely if a condom slips but HIV is not one of them. Further, if the condom were to break or tear, there would be no question that this happened. When condoms fail they typically break wide open and do not just "leak" a small amount.
2. The ARS most typically occurs within 2-4 weeks after exposure you the symptoms that occurred more than 8 weeks after exposure occurred too late to be HIV.
3. Rhinorrhea is not a symptom of recently acquired HIV and when persons are symptomatic they almost always have a high fever.
4. HIV antibody tests are conclusive at any time more than 8 weeks after exposure, thus your 10 week results are conclusive.
I hope this information is helpful. Please don't worry further about HIV from the exposure you have described. EWH

As we have said on this Forum many times before, the CDC's recommendations are overly conservative and reflect the limitations of the package insert and process by which tests for HIV are evaluation. As I also said, your 10 week results are conclusive and there is no reason for further testing - believe your test results. EWH

Doctor......I had blood test 2wks after exposure explained to you earlier for some other reason, blood has been drawn through vaccum tubes,i had doubt whether the needle was fresh or reused...I know it’s silly to think so,but it comes in my mind regarding hiv...however even after that blood withdrawal event,my last test for hiv antibody completes exactly 8 wks which was negative, can I take it conclusive for the second episode as irritative cough still persists

Your 8 week test is definitive and the results should be believed.
Blood drawn into vacuum tubes does not transmitted HIV because the direction of the blood flow is out of the body, into the tube, not in the other direction.
This is my third response to these questions. As per Forum Guidelines, the thread will be closed shortly. EWH
