[Question #2867] Received Oral Sex 1 Year Ago

I am a 54 year old male who has been living in a different country than my wife for over a year. One year ago (after she moved), I received oral deep throat sex for several minutes from another man. We also French kissed.
About 4-5 months later, a small red patch ~10 mm diameter appeared on my penis shaft. It disappeared on its own w/in 5 days. There was no pain, itching, blistering or fluid. Could it have been an STI?
My wife is scheduled to return home next month, and I am becoming more worried I acquired an STI and will pass it to her. Maybe due to the worry, in the last 2 months (10 months after oral sex), I have noticed a very brief 1 second slight twinge in my urethra tip once every 1-2 days. There is no discharge or discomfort while urinating. If I wasn't worried, I likely wouldn't notice it. Could this be an STI?
A nurse practitioner friend prescribed a 14 day course of doxycycline w/in a week after the oral sex—he said it would "take care of most things."
Regarding HPV, my wife of 20 years had an abnormal pap test 15 years ago w/ low risk HPV, which seems to reactivate about every 5 years. She blames my prior sex life for that HPV. Could I have now been infected w/ another strain of HPV that will be identified on a future pap test? I haven't seen any warts in the last year, but I know not all strains cause warts. The other man was a smoker, but I am not. What are the chances I was infected w/ HPV?![]() |

Thank you very much for your response. I apologize that my question had many facets. If you feel it is appropriate, I don't mind paying for additional questions.
Basically, I was wondering if I could have acquired any STI (e.g., Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, NGU, HSV, syphilis, etc.) and not shown any real symptoms during the past year (except what I described above) and now pass it to my wife. It sounds like you believe the odds of that happening are low enough that I shouldn't worry about it, particularly since it has been a year. As mentioned above, the twinge is slight enough that I probably wouldn't notice it if I wasn't feeling so guilty. Just curious: would the 14 day course of doxycycline I started in the first week have done anything?
Regarding HPV, since the other man was a smoker and sexually active, I am concerned he had HPV in his throat. Since he smoked, do you still feel there is very little chance I acquired HPV? I guess I feel lots of guilt since my wife blames me for transmitting HPV to her early in our relationship (from sexual relationships I had before I met her). It reactivates every several years, and she always reminds me that I gave it to her. So, I am worried I picked up some new strain—perhaps a high risk strain—that would raise suspicion 20 years into our marriage. Since it has been a year, could my body have dealt with any new HPV strain I may have acquired from the oral sex?
Thank you for this invaluable service you provide!

Just a couple last follow-up questions...
1) If I did happen to acquire Gonorrhea or HPV, what are the chances my immune system would have gotten rid of those infections by now (1 year later)? I understand the Doxycycline would have cured essentially all chlamydial infections, syphilis and NGU.
2) I know you feel it is low chance that I acquired some STI and haven't shown any real symptoms. But, I am wondering how low that chance is, and if it is possible to roughly quantify that chance? For example, is it about a 10% chance, closer to 1% chance, or even less?
Thank you again for all your help and information. I understand this is my last follow-up question.
