[Question #2877] small scab

Hello!

I was recently tested for HIV chlamidia, Ghon, and Syphillis and received all negative results. For some reason I didn't get  a test for Herpes, and obviously my question centers around that. I noticed about a week ago perhaps after a visit in a strip club which had some rubbing and contact etc, that i had a very small scab near the head of my penis. When i rubbed it before getting in the shower it came off, there was no puss but only a bit red and looked the way your skin does anywhere when you remove a scab. It seemed like it was getting fully better but I guess every time that I get an erection and the area is stretched it begins forming  a new thin layer scab. The scab area is very small but still something down there would cause me concern. To make matters worse I was with an escort at a well known brothel in Mexico. The reason I have always felt safe there is because I have never encountered or heard of anyone in the establishment performing any type of sex acts without condoms. Just my luck, on this occasion I noticed that after my brief encounter was over and she removed herself from me, the condom was hanging inside of her genitals, I assume (hope) it pulled off as she did but how could I possibly know. By now you can probably imagine my questions, was this encounter high risk since the condom came off ? What about the fact that it seemed as if I was still healing from the small area on my penis, even though I thought it was fully healed until today when I examined again before the shower? Can I continue being with my girlfriend, or should I now be concerned?

Thanks for any thoughts or advice.

If the condom stayed in her vagina, that suggests that it stayed on your penis until you removed your penis from her vagina.  You mention some rubbing and contact - do you think there was enough of that to cause some sort of abrasion on your penis?  Have you ever been tested for herpes in the past to know if you might have an older established infection that is now showing up?

There could have been but I'm not sure. I have had instances in past where there was chafing. In a private dance the women will grind on top of your jeans so I just hoped it could be from that. There isn't any pain there and if I look at it now it looks like it's healing it's just so small that it's hard to see it well but I thought it healed a couple days ago and today when my penis was erect I noticed it was still a bit red like fresh and a small scab was there where the skin was trying to heal.  There is no real pain there and no blisters that I can tell or any liquid coming from it at all.

I haven't been tested for herpes in over a year just recently for everything but that.

So this time, did you have a private dance with grinding that might cause an abrasion?
I picture the condom in place for your intercourse encounter but I wasn't there so don't know for sure  Was there any oral sex involved without a condom?

Sorry  I know this may be annoying

I guess to add clarity to my question.

I am worried that maybe the red bump that was on my penis that was not ulcerated may have been a chancer, It was red not symmetrical, had slight sting to it if I stretched and pulled it but could just be the nerve endings, and not ulcerated.

I am  not sure if 4 days or 7 or 8 days days at time I noticed it.  SO my concern is that maybe the Shot on day 7 caused it to go away,  but not cured the infection and thus I am now having secondary rash.  And since I can not confirm the date, I am worried that it could have been there on day 4 when I had sex with my wife and I infected her.

That is why I have asked the follow up questions.  Just trying to understand the time line and give you all the information.

Yeh that's weird this is David. No the time in question there was a condom for oral sex. I'm just worried that as it came off likely as you described that it left me vulnerable on the shaft area where I know have this small tear or sore. Again no strange puss, not sure if that matters.

To add I just saw a doctor who said that it looked like an ordinary abrasion and gave me some cream for excema and said to use that but that he doesn't think it's herpes at all. Gave me a test to "ease my mind" but said that herpes is usually a little bit lower on the shaft but not always. Nonetheless his clinic specializes in STDs so I hope that his opinion is correct.

I'm so glad that you were seen to evaluate this concern in person.  That's almost always better than an internet opinion about skin changes.  For the record, in my experience, herpes doesn't show up in any particular place on the shaft of the penis, though rarely on the head of the penis.  If the test that was done was an antibody test, please know that it can take up to 12 weeks for someone to become positive on an antibody test, after infection.  Again, however, your experience to me does not present a significant risk for herpes.  If this comes back again, please be seen right away and have a swab test done of any concerning skin changes.
