Hi doctors first I just wanted to thank you for what you do here now my question is for the past two years I've had about ten cases of unprotected oral sex and  three cases of protected sex with sex workers and I'm starting a new relationship now and I want to know what I have to test for I have tested for hiv with an home oraquick test well after the window period and it came back negative but I keep on having symptoms like repeat follcilitus and repeat canker sores and dry skin based on my symptoms and risks should I retest for hiv and what other std should I test for. Thanks

Welcome back to the Forum and thanks for your question.  I applaud your concern for your new partner and desire to be sure all is well as you move forward with your relationship.  I also applaud your commitment to safe sex.  There is no known risk for HIV from receipt of oral sex so, your only exposures of even tiny theoretical risk were your episodes of condom-protected genital sex.  If your OraQuick tests were performed more than 8 weeks after your last genital exposure, you are entirely in the clear and can be confident you do not have HIV.

Folliculitis and canker sores are both common problems in persons without HIV and are not STIs.

Finally, just to be entirely sure/confident all is well, you might want to get a urine test for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia a sell.  I anticipate that they will be negative.

I hope these comments are helpful.  EWH

Thanks I forgot to mention the reason I'm scared is because on of the times I had sex I noticed a minute in tiny tear next to the head I'm scared it was close enough to the urethra to got the virus I'm just wondering how reliable are the oraquick tests I actually took two I had to take another one because I didn't follow the directions I drank something beforehand they both came back negative I just want to know if there are any gum conditions that would effect the test I have thin and slightly receding gums I called them up and they said as long as the control showed it meant that it collected enough of a sample I'm just nervous about my symptoms. Thanks a lot your answers on here and on med help have calmed my anxiety a lot through the years.

The presence of the sore would not impact the reliability of your tests.  they should be believed.

I am not aware of any data to suggest that gum disease would alter the reliability of OraSure tests.  In fact, were I to guess, gum disease might mean that there would be more antibodies present, not less.  If you are really concerned (something that I do not think is warranted), you could simply have a combination HIV antigen/antibody blood test performed.  Should you choose to do this, I am confident that the result would again be negative, proving that were not infected.  EWH

So in your opinion I can go on with my life without worrying about hiv. now about other stds I have been On doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for three month would that take care of that? And I also had one time where I gave oral to a lady do I have to test for gonorrhea of the throat? Thank you so much for your help.

If I were you, I would not worry and I see no need for further testing.  The doxycycline you were taking would prevent other bacterial infections if you had been exposed.

This is my 3rd response to your questions.  As per Forum guidelines, this thread wil now be closed,  take care and please don't worry.  EWH
