[Question #2886] Herpes concern

My basic question is how long does the HSV-1 virus live outside the body? I have heard as short as 10 minutes or as long as two hours. I found an empty dasani water bottle in my car yesterday, filled it up and drank from it. It's been in my car for a couple weeks at least and no one has been in my car except myself and my family. Am I at risk for getting Herpes?

I am happy to inform you that you are at absolutely no risk of acquiring HSV 1 from the bottle that you filled, even if you had just shared it with someone else.  This is not how HSV 1 is transmitted.
