[Question #2917] Oral sex with man

Hello Doctor,
11 days ago I've received an unprotected fellatio by a man I don't know in a public restroom (he sucked me during 2 minutes and I ejaculated in his mouth).
It as the first time I did that, I'm married for 10 years.
I did a std test the day after, everything was negative (HIV, Hep B, Syphilis, Herpes (1 - 2), Chlamydia, Gonnorea).
I've no symptoms for the moment.
I'm very very anxious and my question is :
What and when do I need to retest to be sure to be totally safe of those STD and re-start to have sex with my wife without taking a single risk to infect her ?
Sorry for my bad english I live in France and thank you for your wonderful website...

Welcome to our Forum and thank you for your confidence in us.  I'll be glad to provide some information.

Receipt of oral sex is among the lowest risk sorts of sexual exposures a person can have.  Statistically it is unlikely that your partner had an STI- most people do not.  However, even if he did, few STIs are transmitted in this way. There are no proven cases of HIV or hepatitis which have ever been acquired from receipt of fellatio.  Gonorrhea and chlamydia are rarely acquired in this way and your negative test proves that you were not infected.  If you had acquired herpes, you would have probably had an outbreak by this time as well.  Thus, based on the sort of exposure you report, your test results and the absence of symptoms now, 11 days after the event, you can be confident that you did not acquire any STI from this event.  I see no need for additional testing and no reason related to this event for you not to have sex with your wife.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  Take care.  EWH

Thank you so much doctor this very helpful for me.
As you didn't mention syphilis in your answer I guess it is also safe ? ( I've read tons of stuff about the fact that sex between men is more at risk for this disease so I am a bit scared). If a symptom appear (sore or blister for example), as the sexual contact was just with my penis, could it appear somewhere else like my mouth etc?
Thank you that is my last question.

Syphilis following receipt of oral sex is very, very rare.  Lesions typically occur within three weeks of direct contact so the only site of concern would be your penis  If no penile lesion has developed, you really have nothing to worry about.  EWH

Dear Doctor,
We are 24 days after the event (unprotected receipt of oral sex by a man).
For 3 days I have sore throat and my tongue became white ( I can remove part of the white with my toothbrush).
I'm very anxious as I've read it could be symptoms of HIV...
I don't take any antibiotics but I take anxiolytics since the event (alprazolam). What do you think about that ? Thank you

I am confident that you're sore throat is not related to your receipt of oral sex several weeks ago.  You did not indicate that your mouth was engaged with him in anyway, either through kissing or other activities. STIs are transmitted by direct contact. Thus this is certainly not an STI acquired through your interaction with him.

Similarly, it is not related to HIV.    An isolated sore throat is not a sign of recently acquired HIV. Other symptoms such as high fever, severe muscle aches and sometimes other symptoms such as diarrhea also accompany the sore throat of recently acquired HIV. More importantly there has never been a case of HIV proven to have been  acquired from receipt of oral sex. You will not be the first.

I suspect your current sore throat is coincidental and nothing more. There is certainly no medical reason for testing related to the sore throat.  If you choose to test I am confident the test will be negative.

As you know, we provide up to three responses to each client's question. This is my third response. This thread will be closed in a few hours. Take care and please try your best not to worry.  EWH
