[Question #2943] Confirmation

Hello doctors,
9 months ago had unprotected oral and vaginal sex with a stripper here in the US. Waited 6 weeks (at least 42 days maybe more) and results were negative. It was a 10 panel through labcorp which included 4th gen hiv testing, which is my concern. In reading your answers, 6 weeks is conclusive for hiv. Would like confirmation that it is now behind me. Developed a case of follicultis a few months after the fact. No other symptoms or problems. I’ve seen that you have said that is not something related. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Thanks for scanning the forum for questions similar to yours. You have learned well. All tests done by any lab, and included in any "10 test panel" for STI diagnosis, are highly reliable. You can be sure you acquired none of those infections from your exposure 9 months ago. It is indeed true that 6 weeks is conclusive for antigen-antibody ("4th generation") HIV testing. Folliculitis (without other symptoms) is never evidence of HIV, and in any case HIV test results overrule any and all symptoms. For sure you did not acquire HIV or any other STD for which you were tested.

I hope this information is helpful. Let me know if anything isn't clear.
