[Question #2978] HSV1 GENITAL LESBIAN

I just found out that I have had sex with someone with hsv1 genital.  I am female as is she.  I do not show any symptoms and today makes 1 week of our initial contact, we've had sex maybe 3 separate times.  In total she has contacted my vagina 2 times(oral and penetrative).  She has had it for 2 years with 2 breakouts.  She has no symptoms of outbreak, but does not take suppressant medicines.  I am concerned that I am at risk of either hsv 1 oral/ genital because we both gave each other oral, I penetrated her and then later on touched my clitoris (2 times).  I also had oral contact with my hands after contacting her vagina.  I feel as though the concern here is Asymptomatic shedding and my question is how likely is it that I have contracted hsv1 (orally or genitally)?

HSV 1 genital infection is pretty inactive - it sheds on about 5 days out of 100 and recurs infrequently as she disclosed to you.
Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose?  If yes, then you already have HSV 1 infection and it is extremely unlikely you will acquire it in a new location.  If not, you might want to consider getting an IgG test for HSV 1and 2 and see what your status actually is in regards to both.  More than half th US population has HSV 1 so it would not be a surprise to find you are positive, even if you have had no symptoms

Are IgG tests for HSV1 and HSV2 available for online purchase to an acceptable degree of accuracy for at home testing? I also read that is may take from 12-16 weeks to become present in your blood, thus giving the possibility of a false negative.  How likely is it to receive a false negative within a week or so of contact?  Should I simply retest in a few months to be sure? I am so stressed out! Thank you in advance.

You can order these tests online through many sources - STDtest.com is one.  No at home testing, no.  I think you should get a baseline test now.  If you are positive for HSV 1 and the contact was a week ago, it isn't from this contact.  And then you can repeat testing if you want to at 12 weeks. You should know that people who have HSV one orally shed virus from their mouth far more frequently then people who have HSV one genitally. Since more than half the population has HSV one and most of it is oral, you are most certainly going to come into contact or have come into contact with the people who are infected. So to be clear–if a person with oral infection gives you oral sex they are far more likely to infect you genitally then someone who is infected with HSV one genitally.  I hope that makes sense.
