Hello thanks for your help
I’m a female that got diagnosed with hsv 1 in June I had one bad outbreak. I’m on daily Valtrex
We are no longer together I’m with someone new and we use condoms as well. Really trying to avoid giving this to him he is an amazing guy.
1.)
1st time we had sex the condom broke at the end with 5 strokes before we finished. This was bout 3 months ago he has no symptoms of it. What’s the chance of him getting it?
2.) after sex with him I would get a tingling feeling but never on my Genital area it was always my theigh or right under my butt cheek but never lasted more than 5 mins like a few days out the week then stop. I was reading prodrome last hours or days and mins was a few mins. Was that just in my mind or was I highly contagious cause we had sex like 3 days after I felt it I didn’t feel it none that day. Condom always what’s the chance he got it ?
3.) also I got my period yesterday and now I don’t have that tingling could it have been from my period?
4.) what’s the chance of him getting it from me in general with condoms no oral and daily Valtrex thanks so much

First let me ask you if he has ever had a cold sore in his lifetime or if he has been tested for HSV 1 to determine if he is already infected or not? If not, it might be a good idea for that to happen. If he is already infected, regardless of location, he probably isn't at risk of your genital infection.
1) The chance of him getting under the circumstances you describe are incredibly low
2) The symptoms that you describe do not sound like prodrome to me - you are correct in understanding that prodrome normally lasts for longer periods of time.
3) it surely could have been from your period - very hard to know what that was all about.
4) We don't have research about HSV 1 transmission. What we do know is that HSV 1 genital infection sheds virus on about 5% of days measured and is therefore far less contagious than HSV 2 genital infection. And you are far less infectious from your genital than a person who has HSV 1 orally with recurrent cold sores. would be while giving oral sex.
If you plan to spend more time sexually with this person,I would recommend that he be tested to see what he does or does not have in the way of herpes infections.

Thanks for your reply,
I’m not sure if he has or hasn’t been tested for hsv1 I know he went to the health department and they tested him. And he was negative for everything I’m not sure if they test for hsv 1 there?

If I had to take a wild guess I would say no. But he can order this online himself through many different on line testing services, that would send him to a major lab for a blood draw, like STDcheck.

Prodrome is a sensation that an outbreak is coming. It might be a tingling that lasts for a few hours, it might be some pain in the location of the outbreak. With HSV 1, it's going to be much harder to nail down for you as prodrome with genital HSV 1 happens so infrequently. People who get cold sores are much clearer about prodrome - you might also notice a bit of swelling before an outbreak. But again, hard for you to notice when it isn't as easy to see. Perhaps over time you will be able to get acquainted with it, but many people with one HSV 1 outbreak never get another, so maybe not!
