[Question #3123] Testing result

Hi there,
I had a protected vaginal and received protected oral from a csw on Sept 8th 2017, after about 1 week I start having on and off headache, until day 20th after “potential exposure” I have a sudden red sore on roof of mouth with facial pain on same side and sore throat. After a few days those were gone and have a sore neck. I was nervous and worry it’s related to hiv, I went to do a 4th gen duo, insti finger rapid, and a pool naat test at 32 days after “potential exposure” and all came back negative. I was relieved, and around 62th day I had the red sore on roof of mouth again but no other symptoms so on 74 day I went to take another insti rapid test and it was negative. After about 92 days I start having some stinging light pain inside my mouth and lips without other symptoms.
I have read many info about how for a insti rapid test is a 3rd gen test and should not be worry after 8 weeks test negative.
Does my situation sound like anything to worry or std? Or should I go do another test since its after 12 weeks now ? Thank you

Welcome to our Forum. I'll be glad to comment. There is no reason to worry that your symptoms are related to the exposures you had in September. Most people,, even most CSWs do not have STIs including HIV, even most unprotected exposures do not result in infection and your exposures were condom protected, and the symptoms you describe are inconsistent with any , once again including HIV. Further, you have tested repeatedly for HIV and had negative tests. Your set of tests on day 32 absolutely ruled out the possibility of HIV and your day 74 tests confirmed that you did not get HIV from the exposure you describe. I urge you to believe the test results. There certainly is no reason for further testing of any sort.
Thus, your oral discomfort is not due to STI including HIV. I suggest you check with your regular doctor or perhaps your dentist to look for the cause of your oral symptoms.
I hope these comments are helpful. Take care. EWH

Thank you Dr.Hook, I felt more relieved hear this from someone like you with experience in this field.
I let go after the 72 day test already until this oral pain, I was worrying it’s related to candidais or thrush. In oral thrush case because of Hiv, does it always show white thick coating on tongue or inner oral?
Also, you don’t think there is any chance this 72 days insti rapid test will be wrong?
How accuracte is this? Because I have been told a 4th gen duo will be conclusive by 6 week, what about this biolytical insti rapid, is it 12 weeks? Thanks

Oral thrush is characterized by a thick white coating which is seen on the roof of the mouth and the back of the throat. What you describe does not sound like thrush. Further, thrush does not come and go. Finally, most people who have thrush do not have HIV- they have diabetes, have recently taken antibiotics or are just unlucky.
There is no way your INSTI test is wrong- you have already confirmed the results with multiple other tests taken at times when the results are definitive. The most widely used INSTI test tests only for antibodies and thus it is not definitive until beyond 8 weeks but as I said before, your other, earlier testing has already PROVEN that you were not infected. Further testing is not needed. EWH

Ok thank you for your advice Dr.Hook.
Last, have you ever seen or known a negative 10 weeks insti rapid test turn positive after? Or any other antibody test.
A 10 weeks (or 73 days) antibidy test will be conclusive?
Thank you.

Also, do you think this red sore on roof of mouth is related to oral herpes ? Because I did kiss the csw and at one point i smell a fishy smell on her body while I kiss.

No, the location would be an unusual location for herpes and the description you provide really is not suggestive. Fishy odor has nothing to do with risk for herpes or other STIs. My advice is to stop trying to relate your CSW exposure to your recent symptoms and seek alternate explanations. Continuing to try to link of the exposure you described to your recent symptoms will just keep you from finding out what is really going on.
As per Forum guidelines, with this 3rd and final reply, this thread will be closed shortly. Take care. EWH

You are receiving this response because I can't help but wonder why you would think that asking the same question again using different words would get a different response. If I had ever seen someone with your test results later have their test result related to their exposure become positive , do you really think I would tell you that your results were conclusive, that you'd PROVEN that you were not infected, and the there was no need for further testing?
