[Question #3141] Worried

Dear Doctors,

I am worried. I met with an easter european CSW. We did french kissing, I performed cunnilingus for about 1 min. on her and inserted fingers in her vagina. She licked the shaft of my penis and put her lips around the top of it. No deep oral. In panic I swalloed one 400 mg pill cefixim afterwards and now I want to take doxycyclin 200 mg for 7 days. What can be said about my std-risk? Any further recommendations?

Kindest regards

Welcome to the Forum.  You acknowledged that following the exposure that you panicked  (I agree) and panic often leads to unwise decisions which is what I would classify your actions as.  Taking antibiotics without knowing what one is treating can lead to side effects, promotes global antibiotic resistance, and may not be effective if one was really exposed to an STI.

The exposure you describe was low risk for any STI- most CSWs do not have STIs (they are probably lower risk for having an STI than a casual partner met in a bar), no STIs are transmissible by French kissing or masturbation (like putting your fingers into her vagina) and cunnilingus and merely kissing the tip of your penis are close to no risk activities.  Thus, there is very, very little chance that you acquired an STI from the activities you describe even if she was infected.  Had you been exposed to any STI, the infection you were most likely to have been exposed to is gonorrhea and the cefixime you took would have most likely cured it.  There is no reason for you to take doxycycline at this time.  My advice is not to do so.  further, at this point, I really see no reason for STI testing, including for HIV at this time.

I hope that this information is helpful to you.  EWH

Dear Dr.Hook,

thank you so much for your excellent reply. You are doing a real great job. Here in Germany we are not as professional regarding stis.

A last question to calm me down: You do not see any risk when having sex with my wife?

Best regards

No, I see no reason to hesitate about having unprotected sex with your wife.   Happy New Year.  EWH
