[Question #3214] HSV-2

I have been in an exclusive relationship for 7 months and my boyfriend just told me that he has HSV-2. He had an outbreak in his groin area 10 years ago and he got his second outbreak 7 days ago. He has four red bumps in his groin area. If I kiss him on the lips or share food can I contract HSV-2 through saliva?

No. If his infected is only genital, then you don't need to worry about things concerning the mouth.
I would recommend that you get an IgG antibody test to see if you are infected as well. Not having worrisome symptoms does not mean you are not infected.
